Lake Bohinj

The largest permanent lake in Slovenia at 318 hectares, glacial and dammed by a moraine, lying in the Bohinj Valley inside Triglav National Park. The Savica is the largest stream flowing in, fed from Črno jezero, the lowest of the Triglav Lakes; the Jezernica flows out at the eastern end and eventually becomes the Sava. Belsazar Hacquet noticed in the eighteenth century that far more water leaves the lake than enters it, which is put down to underground sources. Brown trout, burbot, chub, minnow and Arctic char live in it.
