Škofja Loka

An old town at the confluence of the Poljane Sora and the Selca Sora, where the Sora Plain gives way to the hills, with its centre standing on river terraces around Town Square and Lower Square. Loka Castle sits on a plateau above and houses the Loka Museum, with Krancelj Hill rising behind it. It was mentioned in 973 as Lonca. The plain immediately south is called Viršk, a corruption of the German Hirsacker, millet field, after the crop once grown there.
