Vintgar Gorge

A gorge 1.6 kilometres long on the edge of Triglav National Park, cut by the Radovna between sheer walls fifty to a hundred metres high, dropping about 250 metres overall through pools and rapids to the thirteen-metre Šum Falls, the largest river waterfall in Slovenia, whose name simply means noisy. It was largely inaccessible until 1890, reachable at only two points, though a bridge over the falls had gone up in 1878. The mayor of Gorje, Jakob Žumer, explored the rest in 1891, and wooden walkways opened it to the public on 26 August 1893.
