Trümmelbach Falls

Ten waterfalls inside a mountain. The Trümmelbach does not fall over cliffs like the other streams of the Lauterbrunnen valley but runs through a gorge within the rock, descending about 140 metres. It is fed by meltwater off the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, draining a catchment of about twenty-four square kilometres, roughly half of it under snow and ice; in spring and early summer discharge through the gorge can reach twenty cubic metres a second. Tunnels, galleries and stairways have made it accessible since the late nineteenth century.
