Saas-Fee

A village on a high plateau at 1,800 metres ringed by thirteen peaks above 4,000, the highest concentration in the Alps, which is why it is called the Pearl of the Alps. The glaciers of the Dom and the Allalinhorn are close enough to give winter sport all year, and the Weissmies, Nadelhorn and Lenzspitze are popular summer climbs. It is a classic resort of well-preserved Swiss wooden architecture with a car-free centre, served by twenty-two lifts including three cable cars and the Metro Alpin funicular.
