Jungfraujoch

A glacier saddle at 3,463 metres between the Jungfrau and the Mönch, sitting on the upper snows of the Aletsch Glacier with the rocky Sphinx directly above. The Jungfrau line has run here since 1912 from Interlaken and Kleine Scheidegg, partly through a tunnel bored inside the Eiger and the Mönch, and the station at 3,454 metres is the highest in Europe. Tunnels lead out onto the crevassed glacier, where secured trails run to the Mönchsjoch Hut, the start of the normal route up both mountains.
