Kranjska Gora

A town on the Sava Dolinka close to both the Austrian and Italian borders, with the tripoint between Austria, Italy and Slovenia on the mountain Slovenes call Peč. It is thought to have been settled in the eleventh century by Slovenes from Carantania, was a fief of the Counts of Ortenburg in the twelfth, and had a trade route to Tarvisio running through it by the fourteenth. It came under Ottoman attack in 1476. The railway arrived in 1870. It was first mentioned in writing in 1326, as Chrainow.
