Veluwezoom National Park

Veluwezoom was the first national park in the Netherlands, some 50 square kilometres along the south-eastern edge of the Veluwe. Push moraines from the Saalian glaciation give it what counts as pronounced relief in this country, rising to 110 metres, and the open crown of the Posbank looks out over heath that runs deep purple through August. Highland cattle graze the slopes to stop the heather closing over, and a small drifting sand is kept open by hand. Red deer, wild boar and badger are resident, along with the regionally rare pine marten. The park belongs to Natuurmonumenten.
