Semois Valley

The Semois rises at Arlon in the Belgian province of Luxembourg, close to the border with the Grand Duchy, and runs roughly westward through the Ardennes uplands to join the Meuse as a right tributary. It crosses into France past the village of Bohan-sur-Semois and briefly forms the border itself. The river is known for its meanders (long, deep loops cut into wooded schist) and the villages sit in the necks of them. Walking and paddling both follow the water here, and the valley holds mist through autumn mornings long after the ridges above it are clear.
