Han-sur-Lesse

Han-sur-Lesse is a village of about a thousand people in the province of Namur, a district of Rochefort. It appears in the record as Ham from 1139 and passed through plague, epidemic and the Franco-Spanish wars before recovering. The reason to come is underneath it: the Grottes de Han, a cave complex carved out of the hill by the river Lesse, which disappears into the rock and re-emerges beyond. The caves hold a steady chill whatever the season, so bring a layer even in high summer, and the surrounding estate carries walking routes above ground.
