Sečovlje Salina Nature Park

A landscape park at the mouth of the Dragonja, where salt has been drawn from the sea by evaporation for centuries. The saltworks cover 650 hectares, with the evaporation pond itself taking 16.1 of them. It is a working industrial landscape rather than a wilderness (pans, channels and embankments laid out by hand) and its value as habitat comes directly from that structure, the shallow standing water drawing birds in numbers.
