About San Daniele del Friuli
San Daniele del Friuli is a town in the province of Udine, about 20 kilometres northwest of Udine and 80 kilometres northwest of Trieste. It is best known as the production centre of its own prosciutto, Prosciutto di San Daniele DOP, one of the two most prized Italian dry-cured hams with Prosciutto di Parma. Prosciutto is uncooked, unsmoked and dry-cured, and its history here begins in pre-Roman times, with archaeological evidence of pig farming in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The town celebrates its ham every summer, at the end of June, during the Aria di Festa. That is the weekend to come.
