Levi

The largest ski resort in Finland, on a fell rising to 531 metres about 170 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. There are forty-three slopes, seventeen of them floodlit, and twenty-seven lifts including two gondolas, one of only two gondola installations in the country. The season often runs from October into mid-May. Levi is an early stop on the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, hosting slaloms in mid-November, and the winner of the women’s race is awarded a reindeer; none has yet taken it home, and the prize animals go on living on a farm nearby.
