Arrábida Natural Park

Arrábida Natural Park was founded in 1976 and covers 176 square kilometres on the southernmost margin of the Setúbal Peninsula, 123 on land and 53 at sea. Its distinguishing feature is geological: a carbonate mountain range, the Serra da Arrábida, rising to 501 metres and meeting the ocean directly, which is unusual on this coast. The result is limestone slopes of Mediterranean scrub dropping to small sheltered beaches, and water clear enough that the marine part of the park is as visited as the land.
