Davos

An Alpine town on the Landwasser in the Rhaetian Alps, between the Plessur and Albula ranges, with two adjacent villages, Davos Dorf and Davos Platz, at 1,560 metres holding most of the population. It made its name in the nineteenth century as a mountain health resort, and since 1971 it has hosted the World Economic Forum each year. It has one of the largest ski areas in Switzerland and stages the Spengler Cup ice hockey tournament every December. The name is first recorded in the thirteenth century as Tavaus.
