Wadden Sea National Park

Denmark’s largest national park outside Greenland, designated in 2008 and effective from 2010, running from Ho Bugt to the German border and taking in Fanø, Mandø and Rømø along with Skallingen and the marshlands behind the dikes. It is above all a bird place: more than ten million migratory birds pass through twice a year, and the starling flocks that gather here fly in the formations known as sort sol. Over 500 species of plants and animals live in the intertidal flats, and 97 per cent of the park lies within Natura 2000.
