Visby

Visby is the capital of Gotland, with 24,330 inhabitants as of 2017, and the episcopal see for the Diocese of Visby. The Hanseatic town is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Scandinavia and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. The most notable survival is its town wall, which still runs almost the full circuit, along with the roofless ruins of a dozen churches inside it. It is a popular summer destination for Scandinavians and takes thousands of visitors in the season.
