Teide National Park

Teide National Park occupies the centre of Tenerife and is built around Mount Teide, at 3,718 metres the highest mountain in Spain, the highest volcano in the Atlantic islands, and, measured from its base on the ocean floor, the third highest volcano in the world. Pico Viejo, also inside the park, reaches 3,135 metres and is the second highest volcano in the Canary Islands. The landscape is bare lava and pumice above the cloud layer, which is why the light here is what people remember. Access to the summit cone is controlled.
