Stockholm Archipelago

The Stockholm Archipelago is the largest in Sweden and the second largest in the Baltic Sea, after the Archipelago Sea across the Baltic in Finland. Part of it has been a Ramsar site since 1989. Surveys have counted slightly over 24,000 islands, islets and skerries. The character changes as you go out: wooded and settled close to the city, bare granite and open water at the outer edge. Ferries run year round, and the summer difference between the inner and outer islands is worth the extra hour.
