Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa)

The highest mountain in Wales at 1,085 metres, and the highest in the British Isles south of the Scottish Highlands. Its rocks were made by Ordovician volcanoes and then carved by ice into the pyramidal peak and the arêtes of Crib Goch and Y Lliwedd. It is a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna. It has been called the busiest mountain in the United Kingdom: 543,541 walkers climbed it in 2022, most by one of six main paths. The rack railway from Llanberis opened in 1896, runs about four and three-quarter miles, and carried 98,567 passengers in 2021.
