Saxon Switzerland National Park

Saxon Switzerland National Park lies in the Free State of Saxony near Dresden, covering two areas totalling 93.5 square kilometres in the heart of the German part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the region generally called Saxon Switzerland. It adjoins Bohemian Switzerland National Park across the Czech border. The sandstone has weathered into free-standing towers and deep ravines, which is why this became a birthplace of free climbing, and why the paths involve a great many ladders and stairs.
