Repovesi National Park

Intensively logged commercial forest turned into a national park, a few hours northeast of Helsinki, now pine and birch with the Koukunjoki running through and lakes and streams scattered across it. Bear, moose, lynx, red-throated diver and a good many owls live in it. Olhavanvuori hill draws climbers; Kuutinlahti bay keeps its restored timber-rafting channels. The Lapinsalmi suspension bridge, rebuilt in 2019 after the previous bridge collapsed, has been shut since early 2024 pending reinforcement. The Ketunlossi hand-operated ferry takes eight people at a time across instead.
