Milan

Milan is the regional capital of Lombardy and seat of its Metropolitan City, the second most populous city in Italy after Rome with 1,362,863 people in 2026. Its wider metropolitan area is the largest in the country and the fourth largest in the European Union at around 6.55 million, and the city is considered Italy’s economic capital. It is the least postcard-like of the great Italian cities and the most worked-in, which is precisely what makes the Duomo, when you reach it, land the way it does.
