Lahti

A city on a bay at the southern end of Lake Vesijärvi, a hundred kilometres northeast of Helsinki, whose coat of arms is a train wheel wreathed in flames, a reference to the Riihimäki–Saint Petersburg railway, at whose crossroads the place was born. It has worked at environmental sustainability since 1990 and earlier, and the European Commission named it European Green Capital for 2021. It is also headquarters of the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark, added to the global list in 2022 and one of four in Finland.
