Isle Royale National Park

An island 45 miles long and 9 wide with more than 400 smaller islands around it and the surrounding waters of Lake Superior, the fifth-largest lake island in the world, the largest natural island in Superior, and the third-largest in the contiguous United States after Long Island and Padre Island. The park was established on 3 April 1940, given wilderness designation in 1976, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1980, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2019 as the Minong Traditional Cultural Property.
