Indiana Dunes National Park

About fifteen miles along the southern shore of Lake Michigan, covering 15,349 acres, and an unusual shape for a national park. The protected ground is threaded between a working steel plant, the towns of Michigan City and Gary, and the older Indiana Dunes State Park, with several outlying pieces besides. Congress authorised it in 1966 as a national lakeshore, and it was redesignated the country’s sixty-first national park on 15 February 2019.
