Giverny

Giverny is a commune in the Eure, on the right bank of the Seine where the Epte joins it, about eighty kilometres west-north-west of Paris in Normandy. It is known for one thing: Claude Monet’s house and garden, and the water-lily pond he made and then painted for the rest of his life. Several American Impressionist artists settled here too, drawn by the landscapes and by the presence of Monet, and the Museum of Impressionism Giverny tells that history. The garden is the visit, and it is worth timing. It opens for the season, and the lilies come later than the irises.
