About Beaune
Beaune, in the Côte-d’Or between Lyon and Dijon, is widely considered the wine capital of Burgundy. Many producers keep their cellars in the historic centre, as they have since Roman times, and wine villages such as Meursault and Puligny Montrachet surround it. The 15th-century Hospices de Beaune holds the annual charity wine auction, the primary wine auction in France, and in 2015 the town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Climats of Burgundy. The route des Grands Crus runs north to Gevrey Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges. On Saturdays the fine food market brings Bresse chickens, Jura cheeses and, in season, truffles.
