Ávila

Ávila is the capital and most populous municipality of its province in Castile and León, in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula north of the Sistema Central, on the right bank of the Adaja. At over 1,130 metres it is the highest provincial capital in Spain, which is felt in the weather as much as the views. The primitive urban core of Obila was probably founded after the Roman subjugation of the territory, though this is not a settled question. The complete circuit of medieval walls is what visitors come for, and much of it can be walked from above.
