Mount Aso

The second largest active volcano in Japan after Mount Fuji, and among the largest in the world, standing in Aso Kujū National Park in Kumamoto Prefecture. The caldera around it runs 25 kilometres north to south and 18 east to west, with a circumference of about 120. The central cone group is the Five Mountains of Aso (Neko, Taka, Naka, Eboshi and Kishima) and the highest point is the summit of Taka at 1,592 metres. Naka is the one with the accessible crater. It is one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.
