About Abisko National Park
Abisko National Park was established in 1909, in the province of Lapland near the Norwegian border, about 37 kilometres away by railway, in Kiruna Municipality, Sweden’s northernmost and largest. It begins at the shore of Torneträsk, one of the country’s largest lakes. Its freedom from light pollution makes it one of the best-known places anywhere to watch the aurora borealis, and the 440-kilometre Kungsleden hiking trail begins here.
