Óbidos

Óbidos is a town and municipality in the Oeste region, in the historical province of Estremadura and the district of Leiria. The town proper has around 3,100 inhabitants; the municipality had 11,772 in 2011 across just over 141 square kilometres. Its Proto-Celtic name was Eburobrittium. What survives is a complete circuit of walls around a single hill, with whitewashed houses inside and a castle at one end, small enough to walk in an hour, and best done before the coaches arrive or after they leave.
