Batalha Monastery

The Monastery of Batalha is a Dominican convent in the municipality of Batalha, in the historical Beira Litoral province of central Portugal. Its formal name is the Monastery of Saint Mary of the Victory, and it was raised to commemorate the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385 and to serve as the burial church of the fifteenth-century Aviz dynasty. It is among the finest Gothic buildings in the country, and the Unfinished Chapels at the east end (roofless, and left that way) are the part that stays with people.
