Nā Pali Coast State Park

A state park of 6,175 acres in the center of the rugged sixteen-mile northwest side of Kauai, the second-oldest inhabited Hawaiian island. The coast itself extends southwest from Kee Beach all the way to Polihale State Park, and the na pali – many cliffs – along the shoreline rise as much as 4,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. The park was formed to protect the Kalalau Valley; to its east lies the Hono O Na Pali State Natural Reserve, established in 1983 and extended to over 3,578 acres in 2009. No vehicle reaches the coast: it is seen on foot, by helicopter, or from the water by kayak, paddleboard or charter boat.
