Turin

Turin is the capital of Piedmont and of its Metropolitan City, and was the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865. The city lies mainly on the western bank of the Po below the Susa Valley, ringed by the western Alpine arc with the Superga hill above it, and has a population of 855,654. It is the most deliberately planned of the big Italian cities, long arcaded avenues on a grid, and on a clear winter day the Alps close off the end of the street.
