Spreewald

The Spreewald is a large inland delta of the river Spree and a historical cultural landscape in Lower Lusatia, in Brandenburg, roughly 100 kilometres south-east of Berlin and close to Cottbus. It lies within the settlement area of the Sorbs, whose Lower Sorbian name for it, Błota, simply means the swamps. The Spree splits here into several hundred kilometres of small channels, and the traditional way to move through it is by flat punt, which is still how the postman delivers in some villages.
