The most populous city in the United States, at the southern tip of New York State on one of the world’s largest natural harbours, made of five boroughs each coextensive with a county. An estimated 8,584,629 people live across 300.46 square miles, which makes it the most densely populated major city in the country, and it is the centre of the largest metropolitan area in the United States.
