Munich

Munich is the capital and most populous city of Bavaria, with 1,604,384 people as of November 2024, the third largest in Germany after Berlin and Hamburg, and the largest that is not a state in its own right. It ranks eleventh in the European Union by population, with around three million in its metropolitan area. It stands on the river Isar north of the Alps, and with 4,800 people per square kilometre it is the most densely populated municipality in the country.
