About Montilla
Montilla is a town in the province of Córdoba, 32 miles south of the city of Córdoba, and the largest part of the Montilla-Moriles wine region. The peculiar flavour of its pale, dry, light wine is what gave the sherry style Amontillado its name. Montilla-Moriles makes wines by methods close to sherry: aged under a veil of flor yeast and blended through criaderas and soleras. The large wineries Alvear and Gran Barquero are in the town, the olive oil of the district is abundant and good, and each year Montilla holds a vendimia, a wine-harvest festival.
