Mont Ventoux

Mont Ventoux rises in Provence about twenty kilometres north-east of Carpentras in the Vaucluse, with its northern flank on the Drôme border. At 1,910 metres it is the highest mountain in the region, and its bare white summit has earned it the Beast of Provence, the Giant of Provence and the Bald Mountain. The Tour de France is what made it famous outside France, and the road up is ridden by amateurs all summer. The wind that gives it its name is not a figure of speech. The summit is exposed in every direction.
