Monfragüe National Park

Monfragüe is a national park in Extremadura, set in the triangle formed by Plasencia, Trujillo and Cáceres, and it is known above all for its birds. It gives its name to a comarca of western Spain, a county with no administrative role. The Tagus cuts through quartzite ridges here, and the cliffs that result are what make it: the rock faces hold one of the densest concentrations of raptors in Europe, and the viewpoints along the river are set up for watching them rather than for the walk. Spring is the season, when the birds are on the nest.
