Karlskrona

Karlskrona is the seat of its municipality and the capital of Blekinge County, with 66,675 people in 2018. It is known as Sweden’s only baroque city, hosts the country’s largest naval base and the headquarters of the Swedish Coast Guard, and has historically been home to a German-speaking merchant community. It was laid out from nothing in the 1680s as a planned naval town across a group of islands, and that whole plan survives well enough to be a World Heritage Site.
