Hohe Tauern National Park

By far the largest of Austria’s seven national parks and the largest nature reserve in the Alps: about 1,834 square kilometres running a hundred kilometres along the Hohe Tauern range, and owned by the Austrian Alpine Club. A core zone of 1,198 square kilometres, taking in the Grossglockner and Grossvenediger massifs, forbids agricultural use entirely, while a fringe of 638 is worked for forestry and alpine meadow. Five sanctuaries are closed to any human disturbance. The park holds the Pasterze and many other glaciers, the Krimml Waterfalls, and extensive tundra.
