Évora

Évora, formally the Very Noble and Ever Loyal City of Évora, had 53,591 inhabitants in 2021 across 1,307 square kilometres. It is the historic capital of the Alentejo and the seat of its district. The old centre is still partly enclosed by medieval walls and holds monuments from several periods at once, including a Roman temple standing in the middle of the town. That layering is the appeal (Roman, Moorish, Gothic and Manueline within a few streets) and the whole centre is walkable in an afternoon.
