Córdoba

Córdoba lies on the right bank of the Guadalquivir in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, capital of its province, with 324,902 people as of 2024, the twelfth-largest city in Spain and third in Andalusia. It was a Roman colony, taken by the Visigothic Kingdom in the sixth century and then conquered by the Muslims in the eighth, and its importance in that period is what the surviving fabric reflects. The old city is compact and shaded, built to handle a climate that turns punishing in high summer, and the courtyards are its particular pleasure in May.
