Carnac

Carnac sits beside the Gulf of Morbihan on the south coast of Brittany, on a narrow peninsula midway between the medieval town of Vannes and the sea. It is known above all for the Carnac stones, one of the most extensive collections of Neolithic menhirs anywhere in the world, standing in long alignments across the heath north of the town. The beaches are the other draw and are busy through the summer. The alignments are fenced in the high season to protect the ground, and are walked with a guide.
