Cambridge

There is archaeological evidence of settlement here from the Bronze Age, and the place was an important trading centre in the Roman and Viking eras; the first town charters came in the twelfth century, though city status waited until 1951. The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209 and has been at the centre of the town ever since, King’s College Chapel, the Cavendish Laboratory, and a university library that is among the largest legal deposit libraries in the world. The skyline is college buildings, a church spire, and the chimney of Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
