Camargue

The Camargue is a coastal region of southern France south of Arles, between the Mediterranean and the two arms of the Rhône delta, the Grand Rhône to the east, the Petit Rhône to the west. Administratively it falls in Bouches-du-Rhône, spanning parts of Arles, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône. It is flat, salt and shallow water, and it is above all a bird landscape: the lagoons carry flamingos in numbers, and the white horses and black bulls of the delta are worked here rather than kept for show.
