Boston

Founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by English Puritans who named it after the market town of Boston in Lincolnshire. It was the stage for a run of events that made the American Revolution: the Boston Massacre in 1770, the Tea Party in 1773, Bunker Hill in 1775, and the siege that followed into 1776. It is the cultural and financial centre of New England, the third-most populous city in the Northeast after New York and Philadelphia, with about 5 million people in the wider metropolitan area.
