Stowe

A town of 5,223 people at the 2020 census, in Lamoille County, nicknamed the Ski Capital of the East and home to Stowe Mountain Resort, with terrain on Mount Mansfield, the highest peak in Vermont, and on Spruce Peak. The Abenaki lived in this country before British settlers flooded in after the French and Indian War and displaced them. Royal Governor Benning Wentworth chartered the town on 8 June 1763, while this was still the Province of New Hampshire; Vermont became a state in 1791, and more settlers arrived two years after that.
